Ghost Phone AR

Discover the mystery of an abandoned phone by searching for ghosts in the environment around you…

Project Overview

Ghost Phone is a thrilling AR game where players can discover the secrets of an abandoned phone and solve the supernatural mystery of what happened to the previous owner – ultimately arriving face to face with haunting spirits of the phone’s contact list.

Seamlessly moving between both an exciting AR ghost-catching minigame, and a bite-sized interactive narrative experience, Ghost Phone is a one-of-a-kind product that blends cutting edge technologies (like world to mesh construction) with an all new gameplay experience for players on Snapchat.

Role: Lead Game Designer

Led a team of 10 multidisciplinary developers to deliver Ghost Phone from concept through ship. Coordinated a cross-functional effort to be the first Snap title that seamlessly switched between Lens (with extensive AR use) and Game contexts.

Responsibilities

Creative Lead

Led creative on the project from initial pitch through feature development. Responsible for overseeing all aspects of design and quality. Balanced technical constraints, a tight timeline, and unknowns of an experimental design space to deliver a Snap first with integration between its Lens Studio AR product, and games platform.

Visionholder

Similar to my work on Fashion Icon, I was responsible milestone delivery and keeping clear communication channels open with stakeholders and leadership alongside our producer. Held the overarching vision and created concise design specs to keep all developers aligned and working at their best. Balanced many constraints to deliver an ambitious flagship project.

Hands-on Design

Contributed extensive work to implementation tasks between my other duties.

Owned features, delivered work in both an in-house game engine and Lens Studio (Snap’s AR tooling) repeatable, intriguing and thematic ghost encounters of various types - plus work on narrative design and pacing.
